#FromZeroToHacker – Catching up: Networking and Linux courses

While I feel confident when it comes to programming and web stuff, I’m pretty *meh* about Linux knowledge and an absolute disaster about networking-related stuff (I know what an IP is and how a router looks, that’s it)

To solve that lack of knowledge, I picked a few Udemy courses to catch up with my mates.

What courses did I get?

I talked about two subjects I suck: Networking and Linux.

Networking

To improve my Networking knowledge I got The Complete Networking Fundamentals Course, an 80-hour (!!!) course that even can prepare you for the CCNA 200-301 certification exam. I especially love that he uses GNS3, a tool that we use as a network emulator, allowing us to integrate virtual and real devices in our networks at the same time.

The second course is Introduction to Computer Networks for Non-Techies. Yep, you can tell what is it about.

A short version of the previous course (just 18 hours) that also teaches you the fundamentals of computer networking. This, instead of GNS3, uses Cisco Packet Tracer.

Both are for really really beginners, just what I am. If you are a newbie too, I recommend you go get either course (based on the time you can dedicate and the tools you are interested in. Pick your poison.

Linux

Now: Linux.

I’m one of those guys that says “I would use just Linux, but I need Windows for my video games”. Sadly, it is the truth.

Nowadays I use more Linux than Windows, but I have just recently picked it up, and now I’m using it seriously. Yes, I can do basic stuff (move files, delete folders, find files or folders, give/remove permissions, etc), but I’m years light from the pros (And I *gasp* don’t even use Vim!).

On a serious note, Linux is a powerful OS, and I want to take out all I can from Linux. I saw real pros doing crazy stuff in just one sentence. Things that would take me minutes to do on Windows.

Another reason is that I’m playing with the idea of, instead of taking the 100% pure Cybersecurity route, picking the DevOps road. Time will tell, I’m in the early stage of my #FromZeroToHacker journey.

What is true, is that as a professional, and even as a user, I should learn more about Linux and that’s why I took the Linux Administration: The Complete Linux Bootcamp for 2023

The few hours I watched from the three courses were well spent, and I learned a lot. In fact, I’m going to learn more about Linux right now, goodbye!
